We interrupt the making of the Portuguese tarts . . .
To bring you a slice of life from quasi-rural France!
Yesterday friends Bernie and Swathi and I met up for a leisurely Sunday lunch near where Bernie and I live. Our villages are sort of suburbs of Geneva, Switzerland, which accounts for the insane cost of everything, alas. (Geneva usually vies with Tokyo for the most expensive city on the planet. You are hereby forewarned.)
On the other hand, we live more or less in the middle of nowhere, so I call it nowheresville France, rural France, or the French countryside. We have lots of green space and plenty of cows and sheep. I reckon it is not exactly a rural area, but it sure can feel like it! Like when you need something that can easily be procured in any small US Southern town, but here you have to make your way to Paris or Lyon or Berlin or London instead.
So there you have all the downsides! But there are plenty of compensations. I love where I live and have loads of friends here. When I returned from my sojourn in Berlin, I went to the Saturday market, and I ran into all my favorite vendors, who said, “Hey, Faith, where’ve you been?” And I thought, ahhh, I’m home.
The lunch place is an inn with a very good restaurant, where we also celebrated Bernie’s birthday last year—a memorable affair that lasted for many, many hours. So much fun.
Maybe it doesn’t look that promising when you are approaching it?
But then, you come to the entrance!
It was a very warm day with bright sunshine, even under the shade of the trees. Our waiter loaned me a hat!
We all ordered a glass of champagne—I mean pourquoi pas, people? When in Échenevex . . . And then, bien sûr, a bottle of rosé, since it is la saison!
When the bread arrives, you know you are in a good place. The butter is among the most famous in France. I once made a special trip to Isigny sur Mère, a town in Normandy, just to taste it! It is perfectly amazing, and I buy it whenever I can. So look what came with the bread!
And then the goodness just came rolling in . . .
And to think, we were enjoying this excellent meal at the same time the TRACTOR FESTIVAL was going on in Cessy, just up the road! Yep, friends, this is why we live in NOWHERESVILLE, FRANCE!
Looks like a fab restaurant... yummm
It looks like you live it a great part of France. Such an unassuming restaurant that produces such yummy looking food :)
